One Piece chapter 890 was the last chapter of 2017 and boy did the chapter end of with a bang. Today i'm going to be talking about chapter 890 and giving my thoughts, opinions, and my review score for the chapter from 1 to 10, 10 being the best. First let me give a quick rundown of what happened in chapter 890 for those that need a quick refresher. The chapter picks up immediately where the last chapter left off. Big Mom and a fleet of her pirates led by her eldest son Perospero are all chasing after the Strawhats ship the Thousand Sunny. Members of the Strawhat’s on board included Jimbei, Nami, Chopper, Brook, Carrot. ( Ally) Big Mom is in her unstoppable hunger rage and she’s hunting down the strawhats for the wedding cake.
But they do not have the wedding cake, Perospero lied to Big Mom about the strawhats having the cake so she would go after them. Big Mom then says if the strawhats dont have the cake then she's going to have to kill her eldest son Perospero for lying.Big Mom starts tearing the ship apart to find the cake. Big Mom is about to cut the ship in half with Napoleon but Jimbei activates his armament haki and blocks the attack with his arms.
He stops the attack but is sent flying into the sea. Big Mom continues to wreck the ship and she even sets it on fire. Nami, Chopper, and Brook try to stop her but they can only do little to stop the inevitable when all of a sudden Jimbei comes back onto the ship and brings a ton of water using his fishman karate and puts out all the flames. Jimbei then uses his ultimate fishman karate technique and punches Big Mom in the stomach and sends her flying off the ship. Though the strawhats aren't out of the danger yet, Big Mom chases after them riding her cloud Zeus, but Brook slashes Zeus in half and Nami uses her weather techniques to use Zeus to shock Big Mom against her will and this buys enough time for the strawhats to get away for awhile. The chapter ends with Big Mom riding Prometheus on her way to get the strawhats again.
Now this was a very good chapter in my opinion though there is some stuff that bothers me. The thing that bothered me about this chapter is Big Mom’s power level. In One Piece we know that the most powerful characters are the four Emperors, and Big Mom is one of the four emperors. She is also the oldest Emperor, she has been one even before Gold Roger became the Pirate King 20+ years ago. We have also heard past stories about Big Mom’s unstoppable power, with her Zeus and Prometheus she has been able to take out entire fleets and armies in a few minutes. All she had to do was summon her Zeus and put the storm clouds over the entire fleets and armies and let the lightning do the rest. She could also just burn her opponents with Prometheus since its the power from the sun. And now Big Mom is in a rage and she cannot take out a single ship with like 5 people on it? I love the strawhats and all but that is some huge plot armor right there. They do not even have their strongest 3 members on board which are Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. Now Jimbei is the newest member and he's as strong as Sanji and Zoro or even stronger since he used to be part of the 7 warlords but even then I do not think that he should have been able to send big Mom flying like he did in the chapter. Chopper and Nami are part of the weakling trio so it's pretty funny to think that they were able to do what they did to Big Mom. So with all of the things that happened in this chapter we can assume that Big Mom is the weakest out of the 4 Emperors
. Now all this does not bother me as much as it did when I first read it because since then i've been seeing theories saying that Big Mom isn't as strong when she's in her rage fits. Now the positives about this chapter, the art was really good and the fighting scenes were really great. I also like that there is a bunch of theories that can be made from this chapter like with Big Moms fits. Big Mom is suffering from addiction withdrawal from not eating sweets for more than 10 hours, sugar is like her drug and she needs it to be sane or else she goes into a rage and she could kill anybody without really knowing. Now there is a theory about her having the same symptoms as the kids in Punk Hazard but i'm not gonna go into it in this review. Even though I complained a bit about Jimbei vs Big Mom I have to admit it was really awesome just seeing Jimbei activate his haki and blocking Big Moms attack. I would rate this chapter an 8.5 out of 10. And the reason for that is because everything gets explained later in more detail because that is just how Oda ( author ) decides to do One Piece, and it works and its great. Oda makes it unexpected, and I like that because I do not like series that are predictable.
